Keeping Dangerous Criminals Behind Bars
We’re investing $3 billion to expand Ontario’s adult correctional system, adding more than 2,500 spaces over the next decade to help ensure dangerous offenders are kept off our streets and behind bars.
We’re also strengthening provincial bail measures and continuing to call for tougher action against repeat and violent offenders.
While the previous Liberal government closed jails and reduced correctional capacity, our Ontario PC team is expanding capacity and making the investments needed to keep our communities safe.
Cracking Down on Illegal Guns and Drugs
Criminals don’t respect borders. That’s why we’re investing $32.5 million in new tools, technology and investigative resources to strengthen border security and help police detect, deter and disrupt the smuggling of illegal firearms, drugs and other contraband into Ontario.
These investments will give frontline police more resources to target organized criminal networks and stop illegal guns and drugs before they reach our communities.
Giving Police More Tools to Fight Crime
We’re also putting more police helicopters in the sky to help officers combat auto theft, dangerous driving and organized crime.
Our Ontario PC team is investing $134 million in the Joint Air Support Unit to acquire five helicopters serving the GTA and Ottawa, along with an additional $57 million for two helicopters supporting the Windsor Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service.
That means more eyes in the sky and more tools for police to track criminals, respond quickly and keep people safe.
Putting More Police Officers on Our Streets
We need more police officers protecting our communities, not more barriers standing in the way of people who want to serve.
That’s why our Ontario PC government removed tuition fees for the Basic Constable Training program at the Ontario Police College, helping train more than 8,000 new officers since 2022.
